Commended to the Word
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
Acts 20:32 (KJV)
Introduction
Paul was saying goodbye. He knew he might not see these believers again, and he had one thing left to give them. He did not hand them a programme. He handed them to God and to the Word.
Teaching
Think about who Paul trusted with the people he loved. He commended them to God, and to the word of his grace. He put the two together because God builds His people through His Word.
Grace here is more than a nice feeling. It is the message of what God has freely done for us in Christ. That word has power in it. It is able to build you up.
People come and go. Even Paul had to leave. But the Word stays with you. On the days nobody is around to encourage you, it can still strengthen you.
A culture of devotion starts here: you decide that God's Word is not an extra in your day. It is what your life is built on.
Reflection
Who or what do you lean on most for spiritual strength? What would change if you gave the Word a fixed time every day this week?
Prayer
Father, I commit myself to You and to the word of Your grace. Give me a hunger for Your Word. Teach me to trust it above my feelings and my circumstances. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Confession
I am commended to God and to the word of His grace. The Word is building me up today.
